Young Musicians Take the Stage at Luzern Campus Piano Recital
On Wednesday, 26 June, the Luzern campus hosted a joyful afternoon of music as 17 students, aged 5 to 10, took part in this year’s Piano Recital. Held in the school Mensa, the event brought together families and staff to celebrate the students’ hard work and growing confidence as performers.
Over the past several weeks, each child selected a piece to learn and practiced steadily in preparation. The final programme featured a rich variety of musical styles—from classical to traditional and modern pieces—reflecting the students’ interests and creativity. A rehearsal in the lead-up helped build confidence and readiness for the big day.
For many, it was their first time performing in front of an audience. Despite the nerves, the students stepped up with enthusiasm and focus, and they were clearly proud of themselves afterwards.
One special moment featured the Kindergarten children singing a song about performing, accompanied on piano by a Grade 4 student. Another Kindergarten pupil added a personal touch by performing a dance that illustrated the lyrics of the song.
In the spirit of encouraging student ownership, the recital was designed as a student-led event. Two of the older students created a display at the entrance that included hand outlines decorated with their names, ages, how long they’ve been playing, and the piece they were performing. They also took the initiative to design the concert programme themselves. Three older students introduced each performer during the recital, embracing this leadership role with confidence.
The event offered much more than a performance opportunity—it helped the students realise that they could present themselves proudly on stage and enjoy doing so. It was a positive and empowering experience that many will remember for years to come.
