A Confident Next Step: Four Forest Graduates Talk about Secondary School Success

Starting a new school can feel exciting, overwhelming, and everything in between. For many Four Forest students, the transition into secondary school or a larger educational setting is a major milestone. Reflections from former Four Forest students show that while the move brings new challenges, they consistently feel well prepared academically, socially, and personally, thanks to their time at Four Forest.
Feeling at Home from Day One
Many students describe their first weeks at a new school as a mix of excitement and nervousness. Entering a larger school with unfamiliar routines can feel intimidating, yet Four Forest students quickly adapt. They are used to structured support, clear expectations, and a welcoming atmosphere. These elements help them settle in fast.
A recent graduate commented that “the first few weeks of school were honestly almost scary, and I found myself talking to all my friends from Four Forest a lot, but I was able to make some good connections and friends that I have to this day.”
Students highlighted how guidance systems, time spent building class community, and strong teacher relationships at Four Forest made them comfortable asking questions, making friends, and engaging from day one. This confidence carries over, allowing them to focus less on fear and more on learning.
Strong Academic Foundations
One of the clearest advantages students mention is how well Four Forest prepares them for academic workload and expectations. Managing multiple assessments, organising deadlines, and balancing subjects already feels familiar. When asked how Four Forest prepared them for Swiss Gymnasium, one student explained that managing several exams or tests in a week was something they were used to.
“The habit of having a homework diary or an agenda really helped me stick to my deadlines, which was something many of my friends struggled with at first,” commented a Four Forest graduate who now attends Swiss Gymnasium.
At Four Forest, students develop:
-
The ability to handle several tests or assignments in one week
-
Effective study strategies, such as consistent practice and early preparation
-
Strong organisational habits, including using agendas and planning ahead
As a result, students enter secondary school feeling ready, rather than overwhelmed, by the increased pace and complexity of learning.
Excellence in Languages and Core Subjects
Four Forest’s bilingual approach stands out as a defining strength. Students repeatedly mention feeling especially confident in English, German, Maths, and additional languages. English classes often feel familiar, allowing students to focus on vocabulary rather than grammar basics, while German skills remain on par with their peers.
“German, French and Maths were the main areas where I noticed advantages that Four Forest gave me,” explains one former student.
Being bilingual also supports learning beyond language classes. Students feel comfortable giving presentations, participating in discussions, and switching between languages depending on context. This is an essential skill in international and Swiss educational settings.
Confident Communicators and Presenters
Presentations, debates, and class participation are an integral part of the Four Forest experience. Former students describe feeling highly confident speaking in front of others, presenting projects, and sharing ideas in class.
This confidence develops over time. It grows from years of regular practice, supportive feedback, and a safe environment where students are encouraged to express themselves. By the time they move on, presenting and communicating with others feels natural rather than stressful.
Independent Learners with Strong Study Habits
Four Forest students graduate with more than subject knowledge. They leave knowing how to learn. Habits such as:
-
Starting tasks early
-
Breaking projects into manageable steps
-
Working consistently rather than cramming
continue to support them in Gymnasium, secondary school, international schools, and beyond. These routines help students manage stress, meet deadlines, and maintain balance even during demanding periods.
“Consistently working and being able to deal with multiple assignments or stress at once really helped me a lot, especially now in high school,” explains one alumna. “That study habit of sitting down daily for at least an hour to complete work I have due has really helped.”
Social Readiness and Community Values
Beyond academics, Four Forest fosters strong social skills. Students describe the school as a close-knit community where they felt known, supported, and valued. This experience helps them navigate new social settings with openness and resilience.
Having been in a bilingual learning environment at Four Forest, a current high school student explains that “this has made it easier to connect and talk with a wider range of people and has also let me apply myself in areas where I wouldn’t have been able to if I weren’t bilingual with such a strong level of German and English.”
Whether through shared interests, clubs, or simply being themselves, former students find that they can build friendships over time and feel comfortable joining extracurricular activities, from theatre and robotics to sports, debate, and science clubs.
A Love of Learning That Continues
Perhaps most importantly, Four Forest nurtures curiosity and enthusiasm for learning. Students carry forward passions sparked at school, such as reading for pleasure, performing on stage, exploring science and technology, or engaging with global issues.
They don’t just aim to succeed academically. They aim to enjoy the journey.
Advice from Those Who’ve Been There
Former students offer reassuring advice to those preparing for Grade 7:
-
Don’t worry too much. Everyone is new, and you’ll adjust quickly.
-
Be open-minded and try new activities.
-
Stay organised, and remember to enjoy the experience.
Gymnasium and secondary school bring new opportunities, and Four Forest students are well equipped to make the most of them.
Preparing for the Future
Looking ahead, students recognise how their Four Forest education continues to support their goals. Bilingualism opens doors to universities and careers across countries, while strong critical thinking, communication skills, and independence prepare them for whatever path they choose.
Four Forest doesn’t just prepare students for the next school. It prepares them for lifelong learning.
